We are the leaders of the Black Doulas of Columbia Collective. We meet regularly to keep the Collective growing and making positive change in our community. Each member has different focuses such as Community Partnership, Events, Finances, Marketing, Doula Outreach, Research and Development.   • Ebonie Garnett

    Ebonie Garnett is a Birth, Community-Based and Postpartum Doula in Columbia, SC. She also is a Community Health Worker and Statewide Doula Trainer. She currently serves on the SC Doula Steering Committee founded in efforts to create policies for Medicaid reimbursement to community based doulas. Her passion is to see Black families be confident, educated and have quality care. She’s been married to her husband, Jamal Garnett for 8 years who is her biggest supporter. She is involved at her local church and loves to laugh, play games, and go on walks.

  • Lakoia Turner

    Lakoia Turner is a Certified Labor and Postpartum Doula, an Infant Care Specialist, and a Certified Prison Labor Doula in Columbia, SC. Lakoia has a passion for babies, the community, and is an aspiring midwife.

  • Karen Nolen

    Karen Nolen

    Karen Nolen is the founder of Earth Body Soul Doula Care, LLC. She is a trained SMC Full Circle Doula Birth Companion Doula, that is trained as a labor and postpartum doula. She is compassionate about educating and empowering mothers to advocate and believe in their bodies, minds and natural mother wit. She upholds the legacy of the 20th century African American midwife. She is a light, big encourager and uplifter in the community of maternal health.

  • Kyra Ledwell

    Kyra Ledwell is a community-based fertility and birth doula that serves Columbia, SC, and Kershaw County. She is the founder of Kinship Doula Services, where she provides fertility and labor support and birth photography services to families in the Midlands.

    She is originally from Detroit Michigan and has lived in many parts of the U.S. including Colorado Springs Colorado, Lawton Oklahoma, Killeen Texas, and Columbus Georgia. Kyra is pursuing her MA degree in Clinical Counseling at Columbia International University while obtaining her full spectrum doula certification. Kyra hopes to pursue a career as a therapist focusing on perinatal mental health, crisis intervention, and trauma, grief, and PTSD.

    Kyra is compassionate and eager to continue to uphold the values and sacredness of the African American culture. She aims to teach those who have been told they do not have a voice how to advocate for themselves.

  • Tanya Ambrose

    Tanya Ambrose

    Tanya Ambrose graduated from Georgia State University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health. Tanya is a compassionate and dynamic public health professional seasoned in clinical care and public health customer service. She demonstrates a mastery of patient care, research management, project management, health services, and client education. At her day job, Tanya currently works as a Maternal, Child, and Reproductive Health specialist working to bridge gaps in existing health and social service programs. In her job, she works to reduce disparities in maternal and infant mortality and other health disparities. Tanya also works to educate individuals about the importance of reproductive life planning by providing education and other resources.

    She is a Birth and Postpartum Doula, Placenta Encapsulation Specialist working with expectant mothers before, during, and after birth by providing education and resources so their families can have their expected birth outcome.

    Tanya is also a content creator and the host of the Tea With Tanya Podcast, where she has candid conversations about health and wellness and public health stories & promotes positive living content., Tanya is the Founder and CEO of the nonprofit Scrub Life Cares, a nonprofit organization dedicated to Serving women & youths in underserved communities by promoting menstrual & reproductive health education, achieving menstrual equity, and bridging the gap to access menstrual products.

    Tanya is also a Certified Lactation Consultant certification (CLC).
